Wamda Research: the fastest growing e-commerce segment

It is the most under-penetrated sector of e-commerce, yet the e-grocery market has perhaps experienced the most amount of disruption. 
  • Noon.com announces groceries as a vertical of interest
  • Wadi.com raises $30m and pivots to online groceries
  • Souq.com offers groceries on a marketplace model (and as of recently, fruits and vegetables)

E-grocery startups are emerging as 30% of consumers across the region have switched to buying their groceries online. The sector is expected to grow at a rate of more than 100% YoY as consumer behaviour shifts further towards digital services. More here and a link to download the full report.
Christina Ganim and her co-founder are tapping into a niche market so far under-served in Mena with Kenz. While the team faced a series of challenges at the very beginning, Christina believes that in Palestine, 'entrepreneurship could be the best answer for not relying on aid and foreign entities', and a way to make people agents of their own destiny.
