TikTok has evolved dramatically since its launch and is now the latest platform for brands to consider. But creating content on TikTok is fundamentally different from creating content for other social media platforms. In this podcast, Rami Zeidan, head of video and creative at TikTok Mena, explains what startups and small businesses can do to succeed on the platform.
Mena startups raised $43 million in January 2021

The year began with a rather respectable amount raised in funding at $43 million, across 37 deals - with fintech in the lead. This is $11.5 million more compared to January 2020 when just 21 startups raised investment. After a year of a hard-hitting pandemic, this is a good start indeed.

In October 2020, Google launched its regional accelerator, a virtual programme targeting startups across Mena, while also making available grants and investments as part of this digital initiative. In this piece, Salim Abid, Google's regional lead of developer ecosystem in Mena, explains why the company launched an accelerator here and what it hopes to achieve.
Prior to the pandemic, many retailers and e-commerce players in the region were already rewarding customer loyalty through rewards programmes designed to encourage repeat purchase. With developments in technology, particularly in the digital payments space, loyalty programmes are becoming increasingly versatile and practical. Will loyalty become a new form of currency?
