Last week, Japan-based venture capital firm Samurai Incubate closed its second $18.6 million Africa fund and for the first time, the fund will be deployed in Egypt. We spoke with Rena Yoneyama, managing partner at Samurai Incubate and Risa Takeda, senior associate, about why they have decided to start investing in Egypt.

F ood waste startups in Mena

The GCC has one of the world's highest food waste per capita rates in the world, and startups with innovative solutions have emerged across Mena to address local food system inefficiencies across the entire value chain. We took a closer look at some of the startups tackling food waste in Mena.

The majority of the jobs of the future will be in STEM, but women are predominantly absent in this sector. In this oped, Charlotte Karam, founding director at the Centre for Inclusive Business Leadership (CIBL) for Women, outlines the ways private and public sector organisations can attract and retain more women in the STEM sector.

Prior to infusing large sums of capital into a startup, venture capitalists ensure that a startup does not pose any potential reputational risk. To help mitigate such risks, venture capitalists utilise social frameworks like conversational intelligence to provide them with a holistic view on a startup's social capital.

Most attempts at segmenting the Mena consumer stack tend to group it into GCC vs. other, or GCC vs. Levant vs. North Africa at best. As such, they are not very helpful for startups and investors looking to navigate the region. Nafez Dakkak, managing director and CEO of the Queen Rania Foundation for Education and Development, shares a guide to market segmentation in Mena.

Last week Mena's technology ecosystem saw the launch of two new venture capital funds in Egypt at a time when deal flow and investment in the country is rising. These two new funds are likely to further invigorate the ecosystem by providing much-needed investment for the country's startups, but what's driving Egypt's current startup boom?

FeedBurner has been a part of Google for almost 14 years, and we're making several upcoming changes to support the product's next chapter. Here's what you can expect to change and what you can do now to ensure you're prepared.

Starting in July, we are transitioning FeedBurner onto a more stable, modern infrastructure. This will keep the product up and running for all users, but it also means that we will be turning down most non-core feed management features, including email subscriptions, at that time.

For those who use FeedBurner email subscriptions, we recommend downloading your email subscribers so that you can migrate to a new email subscription service.

For many users, no action is required. All existing feeds will continue to serve uninterrupted, and you can continue to create new accounts and burn new feeds. Core feed management functionality will continue to be supported, such as the ability to change the URL, source feed, title, and podcast metadata of your feed, along with basic analytics.
