Mena startups raised $160 million in February 2021

Startups in Mena raised $160 million in February this year across 43 deals. Without the debt financing rounds raised by startups Yellow Door Energy and Starzplay, Saudi startups take the lead having raised more than their counterparts in the UAE - signaling a potential shift in investor interest.

While Anghami's Elie Habib and Eddy Maroun had several exit offers, they refused. As a pan-Arab media tech company, the pair thought it more important for the region to go public and develop the local ecosystem. Eddy Maroun, co-founder of Anghami, explains how the company's success was built on localisation.
