Sourcing talent for technical and product-related positions remains a challenge for the majority of founders in Mena. With a lack of a continuous-learning environment, and space for advancement, very often, high-calibre talent seeks out better growth opportunities elsewhere. Propeller's Leen Ashqar explains how corporates and startups can improve the state of technical talent in the region.
Fintech innovation in Bahrain has become the epicenter of the country's government strategy to build a vibrant tech ecosystem. In this podcast, we spoke with Khaled Dannish, CEO of the Bahrain Fintech Bay and AJ Nelson, and co-founder of cryptocurrency exchange Rain about how the small GCC state has developed into a hub for fintech in Mena.

No changes to our Privacy Policy: We're not making any changes to the Google Privacy Policy and we haven't made any changes to the way we treat your information. As a reminder, you can always visit your Google Account to review your privacy settings and manage how your data is used.
If you're the guardian of a child under the age required to manage their own Google Account and you use Family Link to manage their use of Google services, please take some time to discuss these changes with them.

With rising fears around the deadly coronavirus outbreak affecting manufacturing and global markets, investors are beginning to distance themselves from riskier decisions, consequently affecting startups. The Mena region has yet to feel a dramatic impact, but the trickle effects will soon be felt.
The absence of suitable bank accounts, credit cards and loan options in the UAE has left 80% of the population outside the current financial system. Ian Dillon of Now Money, highlights the importance of opening up financial services to achieve financial exclusivity and stimulate economic growth across the region, but several hurdles remain ahead.
Wamda boosts investment in automotive platform Seez

Founded by Tarek Kabrit and Andrew Kabrit in 2016, Seez facilitates the car shopping journey through its app, which offers a smart search engine for car listings and proprietary, AI-powered pricing and negotiation tools. Wamda's investment is part of Seez's $6 million Series A funding round. 

Wamda leads $3.5 million round in mobile games publisher Tamatem

Wamda has lead a $3.5 million round in Jordan-based Tamatem. Founded by Hussam Hammo, Tamatem initially focused on developing mobile games. The company pivoted to a publishing platform in 2015, working with developers from various countries, and has since grown to become the leading mobile games publisher in the Arabic-speaking market. 

Wamda invests in fintech startup Liwwa

Liwwa aims to improve current inefficiencies in the Mena payment landscape by leveraging technology to offer business loans to SMEs. The investment was led by FMO, the Dutch Entrepreneurial Development Bank with participation from Wamda, 500 Startups, Chris Larsen, Edgo VC, EFG-EV, among other existing investors.
