Venture capital (VC) funding in Saudi Arabia has risen to an all-time high with a recorded $151.9 million in investment raised across 88 deals in 2020. As Saudi VCs become more confident and eye up deals elsewhere in the Mena region and the U.S., they are likely to play a more significant role across the region.

Payment delays are a widespread issue for companies of all sizes on a global level. However, the effects can be particularly devastating for startups. Rayhan Aleem, founder of Alpha Pro Partners, a UAE-based accounting firm focused on the tech sector, shares how startups can take greater control over payment collections.

Since escalations unfolded in Palestine this month, there has been a major impact on the technology and business landscape. Internet connectivity and remote work is the main source of income for a lot of Palestinians, but now the city is suffering a nearly constant power shortage, which makes it even more difficult for Palestinians to reach the outside world.

Changes to YouTube’s Terms of Service

You're receiving this email because we're updating the YouTube Terms of Service ("Terms") to clarify our terms and provide transparency to our users. The Terms were similarly updated in the United States in November 2020. These changes shouldn't significantly alter your access or use of the YouTube service.

A summary of the changes:

Facial recognition restrictions: The Terms of Service already state that you cannot collect any information that might identify a person without their permission. While this has always included facial recognition information, the new Terms make that explicitly clear.
YouTube's right to monetize: YouTube has the right to monetize all content on the platform and ads may appear on videos from channels not in the YouTube Partner Program.
Royalty payments and tax withholding: For creators entitled to revenue payments, such payments will be treated as royalties from a U.S. tax perspective and Google will withhold taxes where required by law.

Please make sure you read the updates to the Terms carefully. The new Terms will take effect on June 1, 2021 for users outside the U.S. By continuing to use YouTube after this date, you are agreeing to the new Terms. Please note, if you allow your child to use YouTube Kids, then you are agreeing to the new Terms on behalf of your child as well.

The humanisation process of brands is part of what can be termed as anthropomorphism of a brand, to make it human-like, enriching it with stories, and connecting with customers who have congruent characteristics with it. Islam Gouda, marketing professional at the federal government in Abu Dhabi, advises startups on the process of brand anthropomorphism.
