The year has kicked off on a positive note - a slew of investments in the region were made in 2016.

We've seen the region's second unicorn and investments totaling an impressive $815M+ in 2016. A number of key sectors look specifically promising including fintech, ecommerce, marketplaces, digital content and healthtech with 2017 looking to be yet another transformational year for MENA.

Wamda Capital keeps investing in the region's most promising startups and entrepreneurs with its latest being in media company 'STEP Group' Tweet: Step Group has landed $2M and says it's set to fill a millenial media gap https://ctt.ec/te6rk+ @stepconference. This investment comes in line with the fund's vision of investing in the region's leading digital content assets that aims to bridge the gap between Arab millennials and the mainstream media.
The total amount of money invested in Turkish startups has increased from $35-40 million in 2013 to potentially $70-80 million in 2017. Wamda Capital discusses the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Turkey with Insider founder and CEO Hande Çilingi and Aslanoba Capital founding partner Cankut Durgun.

At TechWadi's 10th Annual Forum in San Francisco, there was discussion around how the MENA region is much like the early days of Silicon Valley.
The end of the year has been busy
