The Mena region is plagued with inconsistent access to healthcare. After a struggle with health issues, Doaa Aref, along with co-founder Rasha Rady, launched Chefaa, an e-pharmacy service to improve access to medicine. To date, Chefaa has fulfilled more than 77,000 orders across nine cities in Egypt.
Last month, Egyptian fintech company Fawry went public in the country's first IPO of the year. While acquisitions like that of Careem's are widely celebrated, we ought to be encouraging more IPOs for the health of the startup ecosystem in the region. Wamda Group Executive Chairman Fadi Ghandour weighs in.
