More than 70% of startups in the region have witnessed a negative impact on their business as a result of Covid-19, while 50% have had their latest funding round disrupted. The findings were published in a joint report by Wamda and Arabnet to highlight the impact of the pandemic on the region's startups. Here are some of the key findings from the report.
The importance of the e-commerce industry has been multiplied by 10 as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic according to Iyad Kamal, chief operating officer at Aramex. Kamal shares his views on the shift in consumer shopping habits, the growth of domestic markets in the region, and the challenges in delivery and last-mile logistics.
As the region starts to open its doors to business again, technology will be crucial for governments as they seek recovery and the return to long-term growth. Here are three ways Jad Hajj, partner, Wissam Abdel Samad, principal, Christian Stechel, senior manager, and Gustave Cordahi, senior associate, with Strategy& Middle East, think AI can help the region get back on its feet.
Three Egyptian entrepreneurs, Fady Yacoub, Onsi Sawiris and Hisham Elhaddad launched HOF Capital in 2016, a global VC that focuses its investments on nascent technologies that have the potential to solve big societal problems.
