The e-commerce sector, and in particular e-grocery, witnessed an unprecedented surge in demand during the lockdown, with the industry experiencing a sudden 40-50% growth in a matter of weeks. Nader Amiri, founder of UAE-based e-grocery startup elGrocer, explains how he managed the sudden spike in orders, and the effects of this pandemic on the company's short and long term business strategy.
The global business events industry has seen events either cancelled, rescheduled or gone virtual since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak. Many events will likely go back to normal and resume as before once lockdowns are lifted, but given the costs involved in travel and attendance and the capacity for online tools to offer a similar experience, it may well be that the event industry has changed forever.
The COVID-19 lockdown sparked a regional gaming boom, as technology, though e-sports and video games, allowed people to combat the loneliness of self-isolation. With Bahrain and others in the region seeking to attract international talent and entrepreneurship as part of ongoing diversification efforts, the Mena gaming market has real potential to thrive as foreign investment, ideas, and skills begin to flow in.
