Entrepreneurship is essential to building a strong economy, and Sharjah's ambitious goal of becoming a world-class hub for entrepreneurs stems from a spirit rooted in decades of progressive thinking. In this piece, Najla Al-Midfa, CEO of Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center (Sheraa), outlines Sharjah's approach to entrepreneurship.
For more than a decade, Dubai has surpassed other cities in Mena as the regional hub for startups, a powerhouse of talent, capital, and infrastructure. The UAE, and particularly Dubai now face stiff competition and are at risk of being overshadowed by emerging startup ecosystems with more money and more political heft behind them.
Despite the constant progress in the Middle East's startup scene, the region still has the world's lowest female labour participation rate in the world. Emon Shakoor, CEO and founder of the first accelerator for women in Saudi Arabia, launched Blossom to cater to the needs of female founders while enabling and equipping them to overcome the barriers they might face along the way.
