The coronavirus lockdowns impacted not only the restaurants themselves, but the foodtech players that relied on them too, namely the table-booking and reservation apps. But while things appear to be returning to normal for these companies as restrictions on dining out are eased, there is still a great deal of uncertainty in their path to recovery.
Governments in Mena have been attempting to attract startups to their cities in their quest to establish innovation-led economies, with the UAE recently issuing new licences and visas for startups and higher-skilled talent being the latest example. In this oped, Robert Mogielnicki, from the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington, explains the impact these initiatives will have on the region.
Entrepreneurs should think about setting up a company to safeguard their interests, secure investments, convert the concept into a reality, and grow the business.
