This pandemic has impacted the livelihoods of those who work in SMEs, both the entrepreneurs who earn a living from their neighbourhood businesses and the individuals who work in these establishments. Fadi Ghandour, executive chairman of Wamda and founder of Aramex, outlines how governments in the region can support the SME sector.
This week, Careem revealed its super app to its 33 million users in 13 markets across the Middle East and Pakistan, a platform from which Careem can ultimately provide an ecosystem within the internet that offers a wide variety of services, including logistics and payments, that work seamlessly together to offer convenience to users. Will the Careem super app emerge as a more sustainable platform?
The Coronavirus may have accelerated a shift to digital that is likely to persist for a large majority of the converted, and has shown the potential benefits of transacting and sending remittances online to a new audience. We spoke with Rupert Shaw, the chief commercial officer at Ireland-based Ding, a mobile top-up transfer company, about his views on the digitisation of payments.
