As C3's (Companies Creating Change) flagship Social Impact Accelerator Programme powered by HSBC was approaching its final week by the end of March 2020, lockdown came into play. Wamda spoke with Yousra Diab, head of programmes at the Dubai-based social impact accelerator C3, on the future of accelerators in Mena, and her journey in transforming an offline accelerator to a fully virtual edition.
Disruptions to remittances and jobs of migrant workers could devastate the livelihood of labourers and their families in times of COVID-19 lockdowns globally. Mark Roden, founder, and CEO of Ding argues that digital platforms and services are making it easier for migrants and their families to get access to food, medicine, and supplies, and could be key to allowing foreign workers to participate in the economy on fair terms.
RiseUp hosted its first online event on August 13th, and attracted over 2000 attendees from 30 nationalities of which included 269 startups, 47 investors, and 105 speakers. The virtual event covered topics focused on the impact of COVID-19, exploring ways in which startups can develop entrepreneurial resilience during turbulent times, and how to prepare for similar threats in the future.
